Abstract


Potential Anti-Bacterial Ethanol Extract Of Collature Leaves (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) On The Growth Of Enterococcus faecalis and Citrobacter freundii

Enterococcus faecalis and Citrobacter freundii are bacteria that can be found in the digestive sistem like Escherichia coli and can enter the digestive tract with food and drinks containing these bacteria. The phytochemical content of Pegagan Leaves (Centella asiatica (Linn.) Urban) is tannins, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, and alkaloids, which have been shown to have antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial potential of the ethanol extract of Pegagan Leaf (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban.) on the growth of Enterococcus faecalis and Citrobacter freundii. Pegagan leaf simplicia was extracted using the maceration method with 96% ethanol as a solvent, then tested for its antibacterial potential using the disc diffusion method. The results showed that the optimal concentration of ethanol extract of Gotu kola for both test bacteria was 8%. The conclusion of this study, ethanol extract of Pegagan Leaf has antibacterial potential against Enterococcus faecalis and Citrobacter freundii.

Enterococcus faecalis dan Citrobacter freundii merupakan bakteri yang dapat ditemukan dalam sistem pencernaan sama seperti Escherichia coli dan dapat memasuki saluran pencernaan bersama makanan dan minuman yang mengandung bakteri tersebut. Kandungan fitokimia dari Daun Pegagan (Centella asiatica (Linn.) Urban) yaitu tannin, flavonoid, steroid, terpenoid, dan alkaloid,  yang telah terbukti memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan potensi antibakteri ekstrak etanol Daun Pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban.) terhadap pertumbuhan Enterococcus faecalis dan Citrobacter freundii. Simplisia Daun Pegagan diekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi dengan etanol 96% sebagai cairan penyari, kemudian diuji potensi antibakterinya dengan metode disc diffution. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi optimal ekstrak etanol Daun Pegagan untuk kedua bakteri uji adalah 8%. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini, ekstrak etanol Daun Pegagan memiliki potensi antibakteri terhadap Enterococcus faecalis dan Citrobacter freundii.
